Move EU Statement on PWD after Coreper Rejection
Press Release
Today’s rejection of the agreement on the Platform Work Directive confirms that the current text is not fit for purpose.
A presumption of employment is not what drivers want, as they have stated repeatedly survey after survey, letter after letter, petition after petition. Drivers want to remain independent, and to be able to run their own business and work across platforms.
More legal uncertainty and litigation is not what Member States want, as evidenced by the clear and large rejection of the proposed compromise. The broad indicators would overwhelm national courts, and undo positive reforms.
Platforms together with self-employed drivers will continue working on making the ride-hailing sector an environment which benefits all.
Move EU brings together the leading actors in the field of ride-hailing. Members include Bolt, FREENOW and Uber.
